Join College Bound Kids, Boy Scouts, Sacred Heart Church Youth Ministry and Riverkeeper for a cleanup and site maintenance of Castleton-on-Hudson's Hudson River shoreline at Cow Island, the Sewage Treatment Plant, and Campbell Island on Saturday May 7, 2016 for the 5th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River. Volunteers will meet at the Sewage Treatment Plant next to Hamilton Printing on Route 9J in Castleton-on-Hudson. Parking will be available at Hamilton Printing (22 Hamilton Way, Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, 12033). We ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots, clothing that they can get dirty, and to bring a hat, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Boots are reccomended for the marsh areas. Due to the nature of this project, it is not suitable for elementary-aged children. Questions? Recently a team of our local Boy Scouts organized by scout William Noll stenciled all 345 catch basins throughout the Village. Will, who is 4abbd65c73working on his Eagle Scout merit badge, also completed a Stormwater Educational Board located at the entrance of the Village Hall. We encourage everyone to visit this wonderful addition to our ongoing public outreach on storm water awareness.

stormNatural hazards have the potential to cause property damage, loss of life, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety. The Village of Castleton is now part of the Rensselaer County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

On April 24, 2015 the first historic marker for the Village of Castleton was installed in front of the Hans Van Buren house, built in 1763, on 99 South Main Street in Castleton. The marker was installed by the Historical Society of Esquatak. For more information see Van Buren House Historic Marker.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Village Board of the Village of Castleton, Rensselaer County, New York, adopted on the 13th day of July, 2015, a local law entitled "A Local Law Regulating Solar Collectors, Satellite Dishes and Installations" The law places limitations on the placement of such property and related approvals and reviews relating thereto, A copy can be obtained from the Village Clerk, or viewed on the Village website at Local Law #2 of the Year 2015

Starting on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, the Castleton Water Department will be flushing hydrants throughout the entire Castleton distribution system. Flushing will commence at 9AM and continue to 12 Noon.  The flushing will continue on every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until the entire system has been completed.  The projected completion date is Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

During the time periods mentioned and for a period afterwards, residents may notice some discolored water and should refrain from doing laundry .
